Continuing the momentum of the RL4Eng project, a new phase of training took place at the Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM), Albacete Campus, Spain, spanning from February 12 to February 18, 2024. This initiative marks another significant step towards enhancing engineering education in alignment with digital transformations, supported by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union.
The training witnessed enthusiastic participation from faculty, staff, and students, all poised to delve into the complexities of remote labs and innovative teaching methodologies. The training participants from the Computer Engineering Department included Associate Professor Dr. Rodrigue Imad, Mrs. Nayla Greige, and Mrs. Olga Yaacoub, both serving as Laboratory Supervisors and Instructors. The three faculty members have previously participated in the initial cohort. Additionally, three new students, namely, Tony Saade, Jamil Nassar, and Jad Zaiter were part of the second training cohort.
The workshops conducted throughout the training sessions were precisely designed to address the key themes supporting the RL4Eng project. Delving into cutting-edge technologies and educational strategies, the participants explored topics crucial for the upcoming remote labs. These included in-depth discussions and hands-on sessions on Dockers, Raspberry Pi, Cybersecurity, and Software as a Service (SaaS).
Reflecting on his experience at UCLM, Dr. Imad stated: “The training at UCLM served as a platform for collaborative learning and knowledge exchange, fostering a dynamic environment where expertise was shared and insights were gained. As participants immersed themselves in the details of modern educational prototypes, they became more determined to promote innovation and excellence in engineering education”. Furthermore, Dr. Imad emphasized that the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Balamand is on the right track fully committed to initiating and executing the establishment of the remote lab ensuring accessibility for all students in the very near future.
Vice President for Internationalization and Engagement and Dean of the Faculty of Engineering Professor Rami Abboud commanded the efforts of Dr. Imad and all the training participants stating: “Aligned with Sustainable Development Goals 4 (Quality Education) and 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), the Faculty of Engineering is steadfast in its commitment to enhancing the educational landscape, preparing students for success in the rapidly evolving and sustainable digital era.” Professor Abboud believes that the initiative of establishing a new remote lab will not only provide students with invaluable hands-on experience but will also contribute to the development of innovative teaching methodologies, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement within the faculty based on applied and innovative research.
